Year of Your Life

What is the YOYL programme?

The YOYLP aims to provide opportunities for people who desire to serve God by building into the local church. This gives both the individual an opportunity to be exposed to a variety of service areas in the life of the young adult ministry of MBC as well as an opportunity to work alongside the fulltime young adult staff.

In this way we are able to realise our four primary goals for this program:
1. Building the individual
2. Building the church
3. Building the nation
4. Building the kingdom

Meet our YOYLifers...

Felicity Lupton-Smith

2010 started off with quite a bang with the launch of the youth and Sunday school groups. I am helping head up MAD, which is the youth group for grades 3 –5, as well as the Little Stars Sunday School. Both of started 2010 with new teams which has been challenging but also exciting as it gives a fresh start and fresh ideas to the teams. We have also have had our first combined Worship Evening which was very successful!.

Together with Cara and her mother, we have also started a Christian union called F.I.S.H (Faithful in serving Him) through LifeMatters Foundation which has been a big hit at Westcott. I have really enjoyed being able to connect with the kids outside of youth and Sunday school.

We have also been busy planning for our Holiday club for the June/July Holidays and our Amazing Race event, which are looking pretty exciting I must say!

Wow, it’s been a busy start to 2010… Already the young adults have had 2 camps, a ministry evening, a high tea (for the girls), a hike (for the guys), gone rock climbing, been on a prayer hike and more!! The Lord is good, and it has been a privilege to be working with such an enthusiastic and devoted group of young adults. The theme of our camp in Feb was about living a life fully devoted to God – may we have the strength to live each day passionately devoted to Him! It has also been a good start to mobilise people in the church for advocacy and issues of injustice. We have a small group of committed members and are seeking the Lord for clear direction and where to focus our attention in order to make a meaningful and sustainable difference. Please continue to pray for us as we endeavour to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

I volunteer with LifeMatters three days a week for this year. I am working in Bergvliet High School, Constantia Primary, Lourier Primary, Zwaanswyk Academy and Wescott Primary. I help run a Life Skills class for grade sevens, Bible Education classes, counselling groups and a Christian club. One project that I have taken on, in spite of this,  is starting a new Christian break-time club at Wescott primary. I am partnering with Felicity and my mom, Dawn, and we have called our group FISH (Faithful In Serving Him).  We have had two sessions so far, and I already feel a special connection with the children and have had a great time getting to know them.  I am also co-facilitating small groups in some of the schools with both Julie and Lauren Robertson. It has been a privilege for me to learn from two such qualified and talented professionals, and I have really enjoyed my time with these groups and learning more about group therapy.

It has been a great first term and I am excited to see more growth and new adventures in the rest of the year!

Hey, I'm Luke, and I am interning at the church focusing on sports ministry. This year there is loads of sports ministry within the church especially because of the fact that it is world cup year. I will be helping with the number of events taking place within the church focused around the World Cup. I will also be putting time into helping general sports ministries around the church grow. My internship is closely linked with Ambassadors in Sport as I just recently completed a months training on sports ministry with them and will be doing on going studies through SATS throughout the year based on sports ministry. I will also be spending some of my time this year helping Ambassadors with some of their ministries. I am working very closely alongside Brian, an Ambassadors intern, for the remainder of the year and I am looking extremely excited to see how God is going to work through sports ministry this year.
